Safety – Our First Priority
Today’s charter coach bus is one of America’s safest means of travel. It’s also one of the most comfortable and affordable ways to move any travel group, making it the transportation mode of choice for thousands of public and private, elementary, middle and high schools and hundreds of colleges and universities who travel millions of miles each year on after-school and extracurricular trips.
We don’t just claim to be safe on the road… We’re actually safe.
The United Motorcoach Association (UMA), North America’s largest association of professional charter bus (also known as a “motorcoach”) companies, developed the Student Motorcoach Travel Best Practices Manual (the “Student Safe Travel Guide”) in cooperation with UMA’s highway safety partners in the federal and state governments, the law enforcement community and the professional charter bus industry. It is designed to help those who plan, schedule and conduct student activity trips to make the right choices and to better understand each element of charter bus travel.

Parts I & II of the Student Safe Travel Guide can help you to feel more confident about the safety of the charter bus provider you’ve chosen for your student activity travel. But it isn’t “the end of the line” for those who have a sincere interest in making safety the first and most important criteria for student travel. The links below contain materials prepared by UMA discussing the ways in which travel groups, chaperons and administrators can enhance travel safety after the choice of operator has been made. We urge you to review this information carefully.
